I've been sober all of my life, and while my social life is generally very quiet, I haven't really had to explain my choice to people that often. If you go to an afterwork event where everyone else orders something alcoholic and you order a Coke, no one really demands you to explain yourself. Granted, this is probably easier if you own and drive a car like I do. And if anyone ever asks why I don't drink, I can just say "I don't see a need to" and people don't really pester me any more about it.
