Tesla recalls 1.8M cars because their hoods can open while driving

- mbfg 2y agothese car owners just didn't opt into the closed hood premium package.
- bdjsiqoocwk 2y agoThey didn't renew the subscriptions and the hoods started opening.
- m463 2y agoI thought tesla was brave for doing this for 1.8m cars: > in mid-July, the automaker decided to issue a safety recall and notified NHTSA. but it's not that bad: > Although the problem is with the hood latch, as with many Tesla safety recalls, the problem can be fixed with an over-the-air software patch.
- petre 2y agoSure, one would get a few warnings an hour, then they would get fed up and install aftermarket retaining springs intended for rally cars to secure the hood.
- squigz 2y agoIf you hear about a "Tesla recall", chances are it's an OTA patch.
- m463 2y agoIf they could OTA add turn signal and gearshift stalks, sigh.
- loa_in_ 2y agoVery interesting challenge from logistics and related reasons. At least for me, an armchair scientist.
- peterisza 2y agoWait, what do you mean? Are you aware it is not a real recall and almost all previous Tesla recalls weren't real recalls either?
- loa_in_ 2y agoOh. Then why call it a recall?
- foxyv 2y agoThe NHTSA ordered a "recall" but Tesla found a way to fix the issue with an OTA software update so the cars do not need to be returned for servicing. > Although the problem is with the hood latch, as with many Tesla safety recalls, the problem can be fixed with an over-the-air software patch. The new software is able to detect if the hood is open and, if so, will display a warning to the driver to alert them to stop their vehicle and secure the hood.
