Do the American people vote for these Muppets/Puppets?
- johng 2y agoWhich decision do you think was bad for the country? The most recent issue that people seem to have a problem with is the Supreme Court punting abortion rights to the states as it isn't a constitution issue. I'm pro choice but I think it was the right move by the Supreme Court. The nation is supposed to have state to state differences, where your local vote carries more power and weight. A ban, for example, at the national level is much bigger than a ban at the state level. People are free to move to another state that is more aligned with their values -- I think that's a good thing. If everything is banned (or allowed) at the national level the states really have no power anymore.
- smt88 2y ago> The nation is supposed to have state to state differences This was the argument made about slavery and then Civil Rights for minorities. It was wrong about that, and it's wrong about people's right to a private relationship with their medical professional and their health. Abortions are a vital, life-saving part of medical care, and no government should have authority to force someone to give birth, especially at the risk of their own life. Giving birth is more likely to be fatal than having an abortion, which means any forced birth is the government forcing someone to risk their lives. We should not tolerate that.
- bediger4000 2y agoCitizens United seems like one of those. Bush v. Gore could be considered another, although more arguable. A lot of the recent copyright rulings seem... more on the side of large corporations than increasing the public domain. American Broadcasting Cos., Inc. v. Aereo, Inc Eldred v Ashcroft
- smt88 2y ago> Do the American people vote for these Muppets/Puppets? No. Due to quirks of the Senate and Electoral College, the judges with unpopular opinions were appointed by politicians that were elected by a minority of Americans. The judiciary is intentionally unelected and appointed for life. The purpose of this is to make them impartial, so they only vote with their conscience. The problem is that unpopular people appointed these justices, and that's why they make unpopular decisions.
