I would say no, food addiction is more in line with tobacco than confidence. Meaning, it's an accepted and relatively easy addiction to target, so economically it's huge.
Sure, you can quit smoking. Can everyone quit smoking? Now we have a problem. Addressing society-wide problems, like obesity, is not helpful with an individualistic approach. It's just not. Because anyone can do anything.
If you'd want to argue the "discipline" route, you'd have to demonstrate what society-wide socioeconomic changes occurred from the 1970s to now, that collectively lowered humanity's discipline. That's a tough ask, so surprise surprise nobody does that.
