For one thing there’s no pulse. The human body is very much designed assuming one.
- drakonka 2y agoI hadn't considered that. What are some practical implications for living without a pulse?
- gosub100 2y agohaving your feelings hurt when people use the phrase "anyone with a pulse"
- psunavy03 2y agoAt which point you say "I DON'T have a pulse and even I know X . . ."
- Filligree 2y agoIt’s hard to say for sure; we don’t have enough people doing it. But just for one… your arteries contain one-way valves and smaller pumps, to keep blood from pooling in your legs, or from failing to reach your head. These aren’t absolutely critical—children don’t die while standing on their heads—but I can’t imagine they’ll work quite as intended without pulses. You can’t just swap the main pump on a massive hydraulic system for a different design, and not expect something to go wrong.
- graybeardhacker 2y agoThere are blood pumps which recreate pulse. The BiVACOR does not. The Abiocor, first implanted in July 2, 2001, does have a pulse.
