Hanlon's Razor would support the "broken API" theory.
- anonym29 2y agoYup, wrong Razor, my bad - corrected my original post.
- K0balt 2y agoAre you sure you didn’t get it wrong on purpose just to preemptively sabotage any potential argument? /s It is surprisingly hard to give companies the benefit of the doubt these days, with dark patterns being somehow normalised … we have learned to assume bad faith.
- james_marks 2y agoI shopped on Temu recently to understand what it was, and there were clear examples of this kind of dark pattern, so I’m biased to assume malice in this case. I don’t remember all of it, but opening a million tabs so it’s hard to leave the site is one example.
- JohnFen 2y agoWhy would they even code that, though? Your device will already tell you if you've lost your internet connection. This looks like incompetent sneaky stuff rather than incompetent legitimate stuff to me.
- seattle_spring 2y agoLots of SPAs detect when the Internet goes out or the server goes unresponsive so the experience is consistent and can be recovered without a page refresh once the problem is resolved.
- JohnFen 2y agoInteresting. I didn't know that, thank you.
