Hanlons razor states that you shouldn't attribute to malice what can be explained by incompetence. As far as I can tell, you've used it against your own argument. Greed (malice) is less preferred as an argument vs a non-robust implementation (incompetence).

Yup, my bad here, my brain had a segfault. I was thinking of Occam's Razor. Updated my original post, laughing at the irony now.

People tend to become really incompetent when implementing features that are not in their company’s interest. It’s not malice it’s worse.
