My experience with software is 80% or more is slop that could have used more perfectionism. Most engineers couldn’t create a perfect piece of software even if they wanted to. Get to the point where you have that ability and then dial it back as needed. Don’t spend your entire life writing slop that users hate but makes your managers look good because they hit some arbitrary shipping KPI.
