The startup culture celebrates an even lower bar, "not viable but appears to be minimum viable". Think of the fireside stories about launching e.g. an AI image recognizer, while secretly using humans to do the recognition.
- trentnix 2y agoYep. And that deception is presented as wisdom! We are supposed to admire how cunning they are with their fakery. And what do they all say? “We should have launched sooner.” That’s what happens when the goal of the vast majority of startups is not to build an actual business. Their goal is to “get funded”. It just feels rotten.
- ryandrake 2y agoThe bar can always be lower, too. Think slideware and vaporware. You don't even need to have a product, let alone a minimally viable one. You just need to convince someone to give you money.
