For us our parents are in no condition to offer substantial help (I actually have to support my aging parents) and after having one child I am quite reluctant to have another one; its not just the financial burden, there is also so much energy, patience and attention I can muster every day. I prefer to be a good parent for one kid than a mediocre parent for 2. Having a big support system from extended family might have made the difference in my case.
