Weight-loss power of oats naturally mimics popular obesity drugs
- paulpauper 2y agoDisagree. GLP-1 drugs work in large part because they make overeating too difficult. People will vomit if they try to overeat. Meanwhile, I can easily put down a big bowl of oats and still want more.
- clumsysmurf 2y agoTry oat groats instead.
- TheCleric 2y agoSome real red flags in this article. The study itself demonstrated that mice fed a high fat diet with 10% beta-glucan had less weight gain and more lean mass than other high fat diets with other fibers. That’s it. It’s only been demonstrated in mice so far. It doesn’t compare the results to “popular obesity drugs”. And even if all that were true, oats themselves only consist of 3-5% beta-glucan by weight, so even eating nothing but oats wouldn’t replicate the dietary conditions being both under the beta-glucan percentage tested and not being a high fat diet (so who knows how this would change under a diet that is high carb, low fat which oats are).
