In 1985 or 1986 I was on vacation with my parents in Augustow and some lady mispronounced the name while ordering it in a state owned resort we stayed at, which my mother corrected immediately. This maybe highlights the point that it wasn't very common thing yet. After 1989, in only a few years, at least in Warsaw, it became commonplace with pizza networks or Italians opening their restaurants everywhere.
