It is amazing how the U.S. consistently gets away with this and is still perceived as a free country.
In the 1980s the only border I knew where printed material was searched was the East German border. Back then the practice was considered outrageous.
- nmfisher 2y agoAustralia does this too.
- Someone1234 2y agoThe US also asks for a list of social media accounts, which is creepy.
- q1w2 2y agoI've crossed the border hundreds of times and no one has ever asked me for my social media accounts.
- plutaniano 2y agoIt’s a question on the DS-160, IIRC.

- stackskipton 2y agoThen your visa will be denied and case closed.
- dredmorbius 2y agoUS citizens cannot be denied (re)entry to the US. <https://www.aclunc.org/our-work/know-your-rights/know-your-rights-us-airports-and-ports-entry https://www.aclunc.org/our-work/know-your-rights/know-your-r...>
- stackskipton 2y agoUS Citizens don't have to fill out DS-160 either.
- ProllyInfamous 2y agoImagine if it were actually one of your social media handles, though [what I wrote above]. Just as example, I'm one of those weirdos with the vehicle tag "No Plate" — never received anything but laughs from police officers.
- belter 2y agoYou should change your license plate to ' OR 1=1; DROP TABLE licenses; --
- ProllyInfamous 2y agonull void I asked a friendly metermaid to "see if your plate scanner can decipher my plate" and it failed. The few paper parking citations I've had placed upon my vehicle also always seem to trace back nowhere...
- account42 2y agoThis can also backfire and you will end up with all the traffic violations of other vehicles where the license plate could not be read for some reason.
- account42 2y agoAlso a question on the ESTA application.
- schnable 2y agoIn the post-9/11 world, whats the current status of "free" countries and how they vet people crossing the border?
- ASalazarMX 2y agoWhat I find more egregious is, if this somehow sticks, non-USA citizens are still not protected from these invasive searches. This should be a human rights issue, not a local law.
- parineum 2y agoNon-citizens don't have a right to cross the border.
- anal_reactor 2y agoYeah but it doesn't mean that anal cavity search is necessary
- casey2 2y agoAs opposed to a cavity search in the mouth? They aren't dentists.
- michaelcampbell 2y agoGiven your username, this seems an especially sensitive topic for you. In what part of the article or thread to which you commented asserted a "necessary" anal cavity search?
- belter 2y agoMake an account...Wait 4 months for the correct subject to come along....
- rusticpenn 2y agoVisa holders?
- ASalazarMX 2y agoIf they have a visa, of course they have the right.
