They don’t. They make bad policy, to stay in power. Political ideologues nowadays generally have no points to make. They believe in whatever will keep them in power. That’s how we end up with a nation full of ‘conservatives’ who routinely outspend ‘liberals’. And we have a nation full of ‘liberals’ who ‘believe’ in increasing the power of the state.
