Introduction to Linear Algebra
- janice1999 2y agoLooks like this uses Flash (SWF) for interactive diagrams. Luckily ruffle.rs [1] works. [1] https://ruffle.rs/ https://ruffle.rs/
- ivansavz 2y agoWow nice! I thought SWF players were impossible, but this clearly proves me wrong!
- lupire 2y agoThere is no royal road to mathematics. All this fuss over finding the best book is an excuse to avoid doing the work of study and practice.
- mhuffman 2y agoThere are certainly writers that are better communicators and give more detail to make it easier to learn while you are practicing and studying. I have had good and bad textbooks in my academic career. So it does not hurt to get recommendations.
- xtiansimon 2y agoOne of the most infuriating things about mathematics—for the beginner to a topic—are the assumptions of notation, which you’re meant to know beforehand.
- perihelions 2y agoAnother free one (and my favorite) is Sheldon Axler's, who recently open-licensed it, https://linear.axler.net/ https://linear.axler.net/ ("Linear Algebra Done Right") There's also a large number of HN threads on the topic of "linear algebra books", https://hn.algolia.com/?q=linear%20algbera https://hn.algolia.com/?q=linear%20algbera

- ivansavz 2y agoIt's not a complete book, but the topics it covers are well explained. Maybe the fact it is concise is a feature—you can quickly get an overview of each topic, without all the details a textbook author would have to cover... Here is a related concept map of all linear algebra topics, for anyone who is planning to self-study this subject: https://minireference.com/static/conceptmaps/linear_algebra_concepts.pdf https://minireference.com/static/conceptmaps/linear_algebra_...
