Socialism's many known and obvious surface problems aside, Marx was a giant fan of the Mephistopheles character in Faust (the avatar of Satan), even sub-quoting the famous line “Everything that exists deserves to perish.” into his own works. Nihilism is a potent drug for those in suffering, or those who feel wronged, or those who have simply been brainwashed. Nihilism leads down a path of hating yourself and your fellow man.
The point here is that Marx did a great job of wrapping his hatred for the human species in flowery, inspirational language that sounds great on the surface, but quickly devolves into exactly the failures, death, suffering and murder we've seen in the 20th century. So, be careful with this. It came from a very bad place.
