Bin Stores: The Final Frontier of Junk Nobody Wants
- ggm 2y agoSSD's at sub 128GB scale are the modern equivalent. You need so many of them to get a RAID of usable size, you wind up needing to do more work than just buying 4 or 5 modern 2TB SSD instead. But, if you want to run a binstore tech home server you can do that, there's surplus PCs with sufficient bandwidth to manage it, for remarkably low prices. Like binstore fashion, there is usually a downside: with fashion, its how atrociously badly many binstore clothes are made. They didn't sell for a reason. Genuinely good non-fast fashion usually sells, you won't find $4 leather jackets you'd want to wear more than once. So the home PC with 20 128GB SSD in it will make a hell of a racket, delivering you highly reliable <2TB filestore which is super-fast for read, but not very fast for write.
