As an American kid, the rule with farts was "he who smelt it dealt it," so you never ever wanted to be the first person to say someone farted or everyone would blame you. But as adults, we forget this lesson and openly call one another jerks, toxic, Nazis, etc. The adult behavior is just as childish but less wise.
