JEDEC Plans LPDDR6-Based CAMM, DDR5 MRDIMM Specifications
- ggm 2y agoNot wanting to be entirely silly, should ECC simply be folded into one of these specs as a "must have" so we can stop being reminded to run NAS systems with ECC memory?
- pwg 2y agoAs long as Intel can price partition their numerous processor models based upon the presence, or deactivation, of ECC, you won't see your ask happen. While they can continue to squeeze profit out of enabling ECC only for more expensive "models" they will be sure to have their rep. on the standards committee prevent any such harm to their bottom line from occurring.
- wmf 2y agoLPDDR6 has extra bits that can be used for ECC so in some sense it becomes free. As the sibling said, that won't force Intel to actually turn ECC on.
- ggm 2y agoI would hope that some subtle shift in markets here, now that both ARM and AMD are competitive with Intel for a significant market in desktop, DC and device niches might make Intel change their mind. A friend says, of 'we should' ideas like this: "I wish all my competitors did this" with a strong implication mUsT dO iT bEcAuSe is really stupid. He may be right.
- hulitu 2y agoARM desktop ? Never heard about it. And no, Surface is not a "desktop". Is a shiny toy.
