I've used (and loved) Rust for ~10 years. Here are the ways it disappoints me
- oset 2y agoThat's very politely said. Leaving Rust gamedev after 3 years https://loglog.games/blog/leaving-rust-gamedev/ https://loglog.games/blog/leaving-rust-gamedev/ The Rust programming language absolutely positively sucks https://old.reddit.com/r/rust/comments/12b7p2p/the_rust_programming_language_absolutely/ https://old.reddit.com/r/rust/comments/12b7p2p/the_rust_prog...
- loa_in_ 2y agoTools (and Rust is a tool) are only ever as good as the hands of the one wielding them.
- peterashford 2y agoNo. Tools are limited by the user, sure, but they're also inherently limiting in themselves. If I want to insert a nail into wood and all I have is a pile driver then being a expert pile driver doesn't suddenly make the tool suited to the task (which was the point of the Rust in gamedev article)
- fire_lake 2y agoSo why invent Rust? Should we all use C and “git gd”? This type of skill maximalism and tool minimalism is plainly nonsense, IMO.
