Rivian CEO says CarPlay isn't going to happen
- al_borland 2y agoIt seems dual screens would solve their issue. No app switching, and users can still get easy access to their contacts, calendar, music, maps of choice, etc. I don’t think I could ever buy a car without CarPlay. I don’t like leaving CarPlay to access can controls, but killing CarPlay isn’t the solution for this design problem.
- dagmx 2y agoYou don’t even need dual screens. You can do it Picture in Picture. They already have a dedicated section for whatever “app” is running. Just make the CarPlay stream another app. Regardless, RJs point is moot. CarPlay 2 offers integrated support for car controls, and CarPlay 1 allowed apps to do the same. Other companies do this already like Porsche. This is just JD trying to justify not opening up their ecosystem because it’ll be a long term revenue stream for them.
- Zambyte 2y agoI would love to get a nice electric vehicle, but the fact that they are often so locked down / anti user is such a turn-off for me. It shouldn't be the manufacturers choice what I do with my car / phone / desktop / laptop. I bought it. It's mine. Go away.
