I am all for hand grinding coffee and I have been doing it for over 20 years now but these pepper mill style grinders are very slow and not just because of the limited capacity. Every one that I have seen has a poor feed which only drops a few beans at a time into the burr, coffee beans are not very hard and can be feed in quite quickly. The grinder they recommend looks slightly better in this regard than most but still not great. A plus for it is that it looks like the burr is kept well fixed in the center at least; many of these grinder rely on the beans themselves to keep the burr centered which does not work and is especially bad on coarse grinds, the beans tend to push the burr to one side resulting in a very uneven grind that is a mix of very fine and very coarse.
