VPS is just a layer on top of physically maintaining servers. That doesn't mean anything. People are paying for convenience. Using a Platform as a Service (PaaS) is a much better experience over using cloud service providers like AWS. The amount of premium that one pays for using the former and whether it's justified is a separate discussion. Also this should be an Ask HN.
