  Just out of curiosity I checked on Scholar when people started to realize and discuss that Chinese the "Belt and Road" (BNR) loan scheme was predatory and aimed at control: https://scholar.google.ca/scholar?q=belt+and+road+debt+trap&hl=en&as_sdt=0%2C5&as_ylo=&as_yhi=2018 https://scholar.google.ca/scholar?q=belt+and+road+debt+trap&... ~2018 or so. Then, BNR started in ~2013, which would allow for 5 years of study.
