Really weird to see HN fail to explain a simple software question.
Crowdstrike Falcon specifically is their AV offering, the selling point is the ease of deploying and managing their agents alongside the rest of their security platform.
Many compliance frameworks either require or are interpreted as requiring AV, so regardless of utility this type of tool is necessary for many orgs. Hopefully this whole debacle will shine a light on that assumption, but that’s a separate conversation.
Deploying AV agents in bulk is a huge pain in the ass and most companies that make it easier aren’t going to be cheap. I imagine C-suites are more likely to approve expensive RFPs if they’ve heard of this company that sponsors a major F1 team.
