Sun is starting next solar cycle–despite being halfway through its current one
- loaph 2y agoJust from the title it sounded like this was unusual. From reading the article it is not. It doesn't mean the next cycle is starting sooner than expected
- guax 2y agoSo it's multi threaded.
- loaph 2y agoHah, yeah that sounds like a good analogy
- pasquinelli 2y agois that because of how the sun twists as it rotates?
- thriftwy 2y agoSo it looks more of a solar pipeline than cycle.
- m3kw9 2y agoA cycle within a cycle
- surfingdino 2y agoIt's the Sun, it can do whatever it wants. Try stopping it, if you dare.
- trinari 2y agoa bi-cycle?
- sebastiennight 2y agoThe link between the title, the contents of the article, and the concept of a cycle as usually understood couldn't be more tenuous. So... in a nutshell, we've observed for a while that there is a 11-year cycle. We're five years into one of those. We've just detected the same kind of activity which was detected 11 years ago, which makes us believe that 6 years from now, the cycle will repeat. In other words, the sun isn't "starting the next solar cycle" I guess? The title of this article is like saying, it's the middle of the night here in New York, but we're hearing that there's daylight in Dubai right now so, let's title our article "Sunrise is happening already - despite it being 2AM in NYC"
- guidedlight 2y agoThe title is clickbait. This quote halfway down the article says it all; > "We're likely seeing the first traces of Cycle 26, which won't officially start until about 2030."
- ipunchghosts 2y agoGlobal warming!
