don't romanticize the situation too much, open source software is almost entirely written by professional software developers, mostly at their day jobs
- jampekka 2y agoFor larger projects there's still usually the benefit of having developers/maintainers from multiple institutions with different goals. Linus is not gonna merge some hacky crap just because somebody's boss says that it must be merged for the next TPS report.
