Ask HN: Why didn't the Amiga offer a standardized file dialog for programmers?
How could that possibly have been a good idea?
- Towaway69 2y agoThe Amiga was never intended to be a business machine, it was intended to be a playstation not a PC. Or perhaps it was more successful as a gaming machine than a business machine.

- amichail 2y agoDidn't the Mac have one in 1984?
- talldayo 2y agoThe XEROX Star had one in 1981. For the most part, I think you're ascribing a modern tech-focused mindset to a much different age. People played follow-the-leader once Apple had a proper HIG and successful product lines. On the heels of the Macintosh, not only did nobody care about Apple but most manufacturers were trying to sell completely different products. The idea of an improved or unified software interface was relegated to the world of third-parties up until Windows was released in-proper.
