A cafe has developed a sensor whose door only opens to people who smile
- mylastattempt 2y agoNot the original article you are linking to here. Also, a camera feed processed by a comuter to detect emotions is not exactly news. If it's not being fed to some Bangladeshi $1.19 worker far away that is. What you do with the emotional state of the person on camera, open a door, not start the car, is hardly interesting.

- bell-cot 2y agoAs briefly mentioned in the reddit comments, there are a lot of ways for this to go wrong for the cafe. Faces disfigured by medical problems or injury, masks worn for medical or religious reasons, those suffering serious depression, etc.
- JoeAltmaier 2y agoHm. Surely they can just knock.
- bell-cot 2y agoSure. Mostly. But the optics of adding an extra step for the disadvantaged & minorities could turn kinda sour.
- beretguy 2y agoThat cafe is going to attract a bunch of weirdos.
- JoeAltmaier 2y agoThe critical issue: can it detect sincerity?
