Bob Newhart has died
- karaterobot 2y agoIt was his dream sequence, we just lived in it.
- quercusa 2y agoOne of the most unexpected and one of the funniest scenes ever on TV.
- AlbertCory 2y agoI look at that scene as a clever way of admitting that the 2nd series was nowhere near as good as the first.
- user3939382 2y agoHe was more before my time but he was huge. The number of votes on this really emphasizes something I learned long ago. Fame won’t save you from the black hole of death. People will forget you regardless. I always think of the buildings with people’s names on them. Does anyone remember anything about those actual people? Nope. When you’re gone you’re gone. Mostly likely after a few generations there will be no mention or memory of you at all.
- readthenotes1 2y agoIt's like Ozymandias all over again
- user3939382 2y agoApparently this poem is very well known. I’m disappointed in myself I didn’t know it, I thank you greatly for the reference. You’re right it’s the same sentiment.
- readthenotes1 2y agoIt's like you met a traveller from an antique land ;)
- AlbertCory 2y agoOn the other hand: George M. Pullman. https://www.chipublib.org/locations/59/ https://www.chipublib.org/locations/59/ OK, I grew up around there. Hardly anyone knew who he was.
- Xen9 2y agoA museum of the cryonized brains of celebrities, perhaps behind AR screens giving them eyeballs and mouths and feet and hands, would be great. The costs of mainteinance would be partly from gov. subsidies and partly from visitors and partly from pre-payments. They could also show how scans of the brains looked when they were getting frozen to make the point that there is information there...
- basementcat 2y agoAm I weird for Googling the names of buildings, streets, conference rooms? As for the ephemeral nature of things, it’s probably for the best that we have a finite time to do stuff and then leave the rest to others.

- sparrish 2y agoThe best therapist ever... STOP IT! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jvujypVVBAY https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jvujypVVBAY
- dvh 2y agoMy favorite is his appearance in Johnny Carson's show where he talks about man who just returned from Mars: https://youtu.be/AhPnpcbDcaM https://youtu.be/AhPnpcbDcaM
- AndrewOMartin 2y agoMine is the line, "You found a shell on the beach?"
- AlbertCory 2y agoI watched this all the way to the end. Newhart is great, of course, but I think his humor and Carson's were like magic together, too. Carson had that understated, reaction-based comedy just like Bob.
- vhodges 2y agoI loved the ending of Newhart, RIP.
- rbanffy 2y agoTo use a reference from For All Mankind, "Bye, Bob"
- clwg 2y agoThis makes me sad, I haven't thought about Bob Newhart in years, he was a ever present fixture on TV my entire youth. As soon as I saw the headline, the only thing that popped into my head was, "Hi, I'm Larry, this is my brother Darryl, and this is my other brother Darryl!" with Bob maintaining a straight face the entire time in front of a audience.[0] Class act all the way. I wish we had more celebrities like him and Betty White nowadays. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5yyB06HvAjI https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5yyB06HvAjI
- ahazred8ta 2y ago"Sir, it's the Newhart Foundation for you on line two, something about unauthorized parodies..."
- kmstout 2y ago"The next time they bug you about Grant's drinking [...] tell them you're gonna find out what brand he drinks and send a case of it to all your other generals." --Bob Newhart, as Lincoln's PR consultant https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tF1ew8wxiEw https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tF1ew8wxiEw
- vlasky 2y agoI'll never forget Bob Newhart's heartfelt eulogy for Krusty the Clown. It was better than some real life ones I heard! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wTZ7lVT7b-Q https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wTZ7lVT7b-Q
