- wkat4242 2y agoComing from Bloomberg.... Who'd have thonk I'm sure it won't apply to me. If I had a few million I'd be just happy. I have no desire to be "important". And after you already have enough to buy a nice house, pay for some hobbies and not have to work, really the real big money sink is influence. I just don't care about that at all, and I wouldn't if I were rich. I'm sure the bloomberg crowd do, though.
- tetris11 2y agoSame, I think there are a lot of people who measure themselves in relation to their neighbours, and if their neighbour lived in a castle and drove a horse carriage, they would feel the FOMO. Me, I just want a house I can put solar panels on, fly a drone around, and generally treat as a large livable workhouse/playhouse. I don't want a pool. I don't want a boat. I don't want a fast car. A bike, and the ability to afford the odd plane ticket or cross-country train ticket in a comfortable class would be fine for me.

- JohnFen 2y agoI don't know. My personal observation, and this is supported by a number of studies, is that there's a "sweet spot" of wealth in terms of it encouraging happiness. Having too little makes happiness more difficult, as does having too too much. The question is whether this is a causal relationship or not. I suspect not, or at least not in the sense that wealth itself is causing a difference. My suspicion is that the relationship has more to do with the personalities that tend to group at different wealth levels. Mostly what I've learned in life is that people can live in extreme poverty and be fundamentally happy, and they can live in extreme wealth and be miserable. This makes me suspect that your happiness level has more to do with how you relate to life and its circumstances than to what, exactly, those circumstances are.
