Haven't read the article yet, but Roger Penrose mentioned a friend (anesthetist?) of his who's researching microtubules as a possible culprit of consciousness.

Haven't read the article yet, but Roger Penrose mentioned a friend (anesthetist?) of his who's researching microtubules as a possible culprit of consciousness. Very interesting stuff.

- alan-hn 2y agoAnd there's the unconvincing nonsense I mentioned in my other comment Its like a bunch of science buzzwords strung together Quantum AI blockchain! I think its completely absurd and throws out what we actually know about computations that do happen in the brain "Orch OR has been criticized both by physicists[14][53][37][54][55] and neuroscientists[56][57][58] who consider it to be a poor model of brain physiology. Orch OR has also been criticized for lacking explanatory power; the philosopher Patricia Churchland wrote, "Pixie dust in the synapses is about as explanatorily powerful as quantum coherence in the microtubules."[59]" https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orchestrated_objective_reduction https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orchestrated_objective_reduc...
- core_dumped 2y agoI recall Micheal Levin bringing up microtubules as well. Looks like the consciousness guys are on a similar thread. Seems like a fascinating place to investigate for the coming years
