- wyldfire 2y ago> Move to Texas follows new California law aimed at preventing gay and transgender students from being outed to their families; ‘this is the final straw,’ Musk says Musk's estranged trans daughter [1] likely factored into this decision. - alexmedick 2y agoI mean, sure its nice to add a political view around this. but let's be honest. the taxes and cost of living in CA is bananas. TX makes so much more sense fiscally. Wish X and Tesla were coming to Vegas instead though.
- FrankWilhoit 2y agoDon't elevate a tantrum. He'll lose a lot of people whom he doesn't realize he needs.
- daseiner1 2y agoAre you capable of considering the statements and actions of individuals of differing politico-ethical views without smug disdain? Pragmatically, self-righteousness skews perception and understanding.
- FrankWilhoit 2y agoDon't even elevate my tantrum.
- metabagel 2y agoIt would make more sense if Musk said he was moving due to the different regulatory environment, but he said that he’s moving because of a law to protect children. This looks like an emotional decision by Musk. It really does look like a tantrum to me, but I understand that you view it differently. It’s just that I think you may not realize that others don’t share your perception.
- mosdl 2y agoOnly Texas will give him all the tax breaks and tax funded dollars he wants. Its especially funny given how much Texas gov hates green tech/etc.

- aborsy 2y agoSeveral companies wanted to make similar moves, but it didn’t pan out. You don’t have people that you need, among others.
- jprd 2y agoRight. A law designed to protect children. That is the last straw. Parents that take this view are the ones the law was written about. Imagine being an involved, caring and loving parent that wouldn't have any insight in something so fundamental to a person's being. You can't. They would not hide it from you without fear. Also. Jason Calacanis? Really?
- basementcat 2y agoIt isn't clear how much immediate day-to-day difference this would make to SpaceX. Company leadership moved to Texas some time ago. Production of Starlink user terminals was already moving to Austin/Bastrop (with component production possibly migrating to other countries) and Hawthorne Raptor production was likely being migrated back to Boca. Hawthorne mostly hosted development support for legacy products like Falcon and Dragon with the expectation that these offices would close when these products are no longer being offered. Starship software development will probably eventually be migrated to Boca and other projects will likely follow. It probably makes sense for the business to move to a venue with a more favorable regulatory environment. The company has been party to multiple lawsuits related to sexual harassment, assault and workplace injury/death and the ability to try cases in a more friendly environment will make it easier to encourage employees to optimize productivity.
