My ten-year-old Apple developer account has been locked by Apple
Hello Hacker News community,
I'm reaching out for advice and support about a crazy situation with my Apple Developer account. I've been a member of the Apple Developer Program since November 2013, paying the annual subscription fees to maintain my small website's free app on the App Store.
I recently forgot to renew my membership and when I attempted to log in to resubscribe, I was greeted by a message stating that my account was locked. They said I could ask for a review to unlock it, which I did, but I then received an email about 12 hrs later saying that the review was unsuccessful. I contacted Apple Support by phone, only to be told that my account has been permanently locked and cannot be restored. The app is important to my users, and I am desperate to find a solution.
Has anyone else experienced something similar? Any advice on steps I can take or contacts within Apple who might be able to help? Your insights and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
- zerr 2y agoMaybe they think you are monetizing your website and providing the free app, thus avoiding the Apple tax.
- RandomEncounter 2y agoThe app is free and provides full funtionality as long as you are a member (paid or unpaid) of the website. The paid part of the website has nothing to do with the app's functionality.
- bell-cot 2y agoIIR, even mentioning in the app that there is something, somewhere that could be paid for (without Apple getting its 30%) can piss off Apple.
- RandomEncounter 2y agoNo where in the app or the app landing page is it mentioned that there is any paid functionality.
- stop50 2y agoAre you in europe or not? If yes, you can use an lawyer to solve this problem.
- RandomEncounter 2y agoI am based in UK. Will a legal approach still be effective?
- stop50 2y agoim not sure, but the chances are not nil. An lawyer will give you better answers than someone on the internet. Any other non-eu country would have less chances
