Ask HN: How to monetize my CS/ML academic research papers?
I have published several papers about Large Language Models (LLMs) and have received positive feedback from the community. My next two papers are more practical and solve real world problems. One is about agents and the other about RAG (sort of). TBH, the next two papers are literally recipes for a couple startups ideas, and I wonder if I'm shooting myself in the foot by releasing them freely as research papers. On one hand, as an academic I care about distributing knowledge and science freely. On the other hand, I want to be able to benefit from the implications of my research, and potentially, monetize it.
I'm a solo author, so I don't have to worry about IP issues. Also, I'm an international Ph.D. candidate right now, and I don't know how that complicates things with regard to starting a company/startup, attracting VCs, etc.
