- OutOfHere 2y agoWe built it using national debt which has only accumulated for over a century. It is unsustainable, and it will snap in this century. If we had instead been debt free, we would have seen a lower growth rate, but a more sustainable and resilient one.
- Eddy_Viscosity2 2y agoWhat would happen exactly if all this national debt was just written off/cancelled? They are just numbers in a spreadsheet.
- OutOfHere 2y agoIndeed. There would be significant inflation. Also, the use of the dollar as a global reserve currency would be over. An alternative that would avoid both of these two issues is to legally seize 95% of the wealth of the the richest 1% of the people in the country, and use it to pay off the entire debt. After all, odds are high that they have built their wealth using significant exploitation of the environment.
