Wow is that the wrong journal to raise that sentiment. VCs are only here to maximize returns, if they can have some sort of interesting effect on the world that's cool too but returns for their LPs are the sole yardstick. Employees will never get more free time. Remember when word processors and email were going to free up time? All employees will be maximally engaged, plus or minus, and superfluous ones let go. Some jobs might not be successfully replaced, per the customer service example, just like taxi/uber drivers won't be replaced anytime soon. But as soon as they sustainably can be, they will be. And our government is captured by the financial class, it won't matter much which party (in the USA) is in power.
