Why allergy conditions are worse than ever in the Bay Area
- J_Shelby_J 2y agoAs a Texan, let me tell you, the only thing works any more is Sudafed. That said, from my research the Bay Area lacks ragweed and mountain cedar. Those two are on another level of symptoms. Allergies affect everyone to some degree, but mountain cedar is toxic in a way other allergens are not. Allergies suck. They have a large but largely unnoticed effect on cognitive abilities. IMO, it’s part of the reason continental climates are not often the places of great intellectual productivity.
- daedalus_j 2y agoGet 'ye to an allergist and get some shots! At least in the DFW area i've managed to go from 3-weeks of benadryl-induced-coma during the "cedar season" to barely a stuffy nose! I've heard Houston is worse. That's kinda terrifying.
- fuzzfactor 2y agoPollen is nothing to sneeze at, but once you've toughened up to the chemical plants on the Ship Channel it starts making you think it's completely normal to be irritated by irritants. Who wouldn't be? Allergies not necessarily required :)
- schiffern 2y agoLots of interventions mentioned in the article, except (conspicuously) masks. It seems sensible to attack the problem at its source instead of band-aid the symptoms afterward with drugs, drugs, and more drugs.
- schiffern 2y agoI have trouble understanding the (disappointingly, drive-by) downvote. Is something I wrote incorrect?
