I'm curious what the implications are for the Drake equation and the Great Filter.
- choilive 2y agoI think it implies that at least some of the "hard" steps in the great filter - particularly around single celled organisms are probably very easy. An increasing body of evidence points to the idea that immediately after the conditions favorable to life existed (liquid water+building blocks), life seems to pop into existence in a blink of a (geological) eye. (n=1). True multicellular life however seems to be very very difficult, something that took billions of years after unicellular life appeared, and once life "figured" that out it caused a massive increase in biodiversity (Cambrian explosion).
- dsq 2y agoInteresting, so extrasolar life may be common but complex forms much less so.
