Blue checks never made claims about the information accounts post, only that the owner of the account has been verified to be who they say they are. Which is still a good thing in the face of misinformation because then you can more confidently say "person [x] said [thing] and I believe that to be a lie." While they weren't perfect before, the checks are now entirely useless for that purpose.
