Internet Archive and Library and Archives Canada Launches Digitization Project
- ZunarJ5 2y agoI hope they decentralise for their own protection and open a few more.
- beej71 2y agoYes! I already give them money, and now will start sending money to the Canadian one. Open more and I'll send more!

- account42 2y agoTitle seems mangled, original title is > Internet Archive Canada Launches Digitization Project with Library and Archives Canada This is the first time I have heard about Internet Archive Canada and the website internetarchivecanada.org is just a plain Wordpress blog without any obvious information about who they are. Do they have anything to do with the Internet Archive (archive.org)? Will the digitized material end up there or be locked in Canadian libraries?
- pabs3 2y agoHad to mangle the title to fit HN length limits.

- adamiscool8 2y agoSounds great, hopefully Library & Archives Canada will be more reliable stewards than the Canadian Media Fund who inexplicably decided to abandon and delete their 5 year "pilot" effort to preserve memorable Canadian film and TV content. >The Canada Media Fund previously operated a YouTube channel called Encore+ in collaboration with Telefilm Canada, Deluxe Toronto, BroadbandTV, Bell Media, and Google Canada. This channel was uniquely dedicated to licensing and making freely available older Canadian content, particularly series and films without an existing streaming service presence or physical home media releases. On November 17 and 18, 2022, official platforms announced that after more than five years of availability, the service (now considered a pilot project) was to shut down on November 30. All media was wiped from both YouTube channels on that date, and the Twitter account and Facebook page with lists of content and discussion were made unavailable.
