Ask HN: What are your must-listen weekly podcasts?
I’m curious to know what podcasts the HN community looks forward to each week. Whether it’s tech-related, storytelling, news, interviews, or something completely different, I’d love to hear your recommendations.
Here are a few questions to get the discussion started:
• Which podcasts do you never miss an episode of?
• What makes them stand out to you?
• Are there any hidden gems or lesser-known podcasts you’d recommend?
• Any specific episodes that you found particularly insightful or entertaining?
Thanks
- fallinditch 2y agoKermode and Mayo's Take (film reviews) Weekend (The Guardian) Economist Podcasts In Our Time (BBC) Football Weekly (The Guardian) Behind The Money (Financial Times)
- ricktdotorg 2y ago> In Our Time (BBC) seconding. In Our Time[0] is one of the most valuable and interesting sources of knowledge in audio form on the planet. i've been listening to it since the 1990s when i lived in the UK and listened via FM on bbc radio 4. 20+ years later, i live in the USA and i'm still listening to the same weekly round table of scholars talking in-depth about something fascinating, deftly herded by melvyn bragg. there are over 1000 episodes [1] in the considerable archive [2]! - tra3 2y agoI hope this is a good place for this question - is there a way to “read it later” a podcast snippet? I listen to podcasts when I drive and I frequently want to follow up on something that I’m listening to. By the time I get out of the car though, I totally forget. Any solutions?
- sircastor 2y ago* This Week in tech * Upgrade * MacBreak Weekly * Budget Nerds * Downstream * Hackaday Podcast * The Incomparable * The Cory Doctorow podcast * The Open Hardware Manufacturing podcast * The 3028 Beyond those, I have two skies that have completed their runs but I keep in my app. The first is Jason Snell’s “20 Macs for 2020”. If you had any love for Apple back in the day, it’s a fun listen. The second is “Binge Mode Harry Potter” which is an incredible deconstruction of the Harry Potter Books and Films. Though It is not something you can listen to with kids in the car.
- izolate 2y agoThe Daily (NYT) and Best of Car Talk. The latter is what happens when 2 engineering-minded individuals become mechanics.
- rdmullins1978 2y agoI miss listening to Click and Clack every weekend but the Best Of podcast sort of fills that void. It was an amazing show.
- bigbassroller 2y ago- Shop Talk Show. Chris Coyier is my idol - Syntax. Been watching less since they no longer have the catchy intro song. - Thinking Elixir. Dislike the intro but love Elixir. - JS Party, Changelog. By far the best intro songs and sound affects. Yea, I am web developer who can’t get enough, and heavily like catchy intros
- HenryBemis 2y ago- Security Now - Lex Fridman - Tucker Carlson - Joe Rogan - Diary of a CEO - Jordan P Peterson - Dave Ramsey (but once a month or so) I've been listening to Security Now since forever and am a happy owner of SpinRite, and I have picked up everything else the past few months, more to 'monitor' what's going on in the US (I also watch Colbert, Kimmel, Meyers, Daily Show)(so I can get 'both sides' of the political spectrum).

- flag32 2y agoI really enjoy "No Dump Questions" as their hosts do a great job to explain complicated History, mechanics, human behaviour, ..., any topics in simple and accesible terms. Kudos to Destin Sandlin and Matt Whitman.
- flag32 2y agoThis episode on Persian vs Greeks is awesome: https://open.spotify.com/episode/1KXlgyx1NnCpnlOVXlp5Cg?si=nYocnFvYT4-12Y95p3-HbA https://open.spotify.com/episode/1KXlgyx1NnCpnlOVXlp5Cg?si=n...
- unraveller 2y agohttps://podcast.thisdayinai.com https://podcast.thisdayinai.com A light-hearted take on the very latest big ticket items in AI, I like that they just don't shy away from any related topic no matter how crude. It is often in the top 50 tech podcasts of the week [1]. [1] https://rephonic.com/charts/apple/united-states/technology https://rephonic.com/charts/apple/united-states/technology
- rozenmd 2y agoStartups for the rest of us. It's the only podcast where every episode is relevant, and that I've consistently listened to for years (as a bootstrapped founder myself).
- surprisetalk 2y agoI maintain a list of podcasts here: [1] https://taylor.town/podcasts https://taylor.town/podcasts I believe all of these are weekly, and they were all "must-listen" for me at some point in the past :) • 99 Percent Invisible: design • Radiolab: science(?) • Planet Money: economics • Deep Questions with Cal Newport: productivity • Dear Hank & Jon: depth/science/humor • Cautionary Tales: history/science
- mikewarot 2y agoHello Internet is awesome, but currently on HI-atus.
