- dredmorbius 2y ago<https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=9378899 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=9378899> I'm pretty confident in my understanding of HN's guidelines and dang's views on them. He's the site moderator (I am not). Note that most of HN's actual moderation is, however, by ordinary members. I'm not going to argue the point. I strongly encourage you to read through dang's comments and admonitions on this point, which makes clear just what constitutes a swipe: <https://hn.algolia.com/?dateRange=all&page=0&prefix=false&query=by%3Adang%20swipes&sort=byPopularity&type=comment https://hn.algolia.com/?dateRange=all&page=0&prefix=false&qu...> And ... you've been admonished before on this specific point, more than once: <https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=39696275 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=39696275> <https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=37925316 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=37925316> <https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=37906769 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=37906769>
- xcv123 2y agoIt was not a swipe. You are hallucinating a swipe that does not exist. I won't be replying to any more of this nonsense. If you see a comment you don't like then just flag it and downvote it. You're not a moderator here and even if you were, you're not good at the job. You are polluting the thread with noise. Not everyone pays attention to the NASA probe launch schedule. So what? It's not a swipe. As I said, I wasn't paying attention to that for years.
- dredmorbius 2y agoLargely for my own future reference, a comment by dang explaining the fragility of online discussion and hence the importance of civility: A forum like HN is perennially teetering on the edge of a downward spiral and can easily burn itself to a crisp. The founding idea of the site was to try to stave that fate off, at least for a while. <https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=23047709 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=23047709> That also links to pg's original HN "Welcome" post, which expands on these goals. I've read that before, but am re-reading and re-absorbing its points again now: <https://news.ycombinator.com/newswelcome.html https://news.ycombinator.com/newswelcome.html>
- turndown 2y agoThey have been sending out new rules every few years. You just haven’t paid attention. https://news.ycombinator.com/newsguidelines.html https://news.ycombinator.com/newsguidelines.html
- xcv123 2y agoNo I have been paying attention to those rules. I did not violate any of the rules. Ironically you are breaking the rules by polluting the thread with irrelevant noise and false accusations.
- dredmorbius 2y agoWell played, but, ahem: <https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=9913629 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=9913629> ;-)
