Microsoft did this with the Paperclip in Microsoft Word. Progressive disclosure works well in computer games, which are relatively linear. Shortcuts in text editors are just that - shortcuts. Perhaps it might be more appropriate to ambiently detect when someone is going the long way about a task, and recommend a shorter route. Ex sequence: End, Shift + Home, Del Recommends: Ctrl + Shift + Del (Scintilla line delete shortcut)
