Important Update on Mbed
- chrsw 2y agoEven though I never developed on Mbed, I always thought it was a cool project and I should take a look at it one day. I don't think Arm rolled this out right. It never looked like it was super easy to get going on a real, widely available dev board. Oh well, maybe it will thrive in the open.
- pjmlp 2y agoYet another cool OS project that bites the dust.
- Rinzler89 2y agoHow would it bite the dust if it's OS? If it's OS it means anyone can fork it and keep it going. They even say that after 2026 the codebase will move to github. So to me this only means that ARM won't be in charge of developing it anymore, but the community will.
- saurik 2y agoAre we sure "OS" here meant "open source"? I read the comment you are replying to as "operating system"--particularly within the context that the project being discussed is Mbed OS--and when I started reading your reply I had to do a double-take as I found the wording "if it's [Operating System]" extremely confusing.
- jononor 2y agoIs the online compiler and IDE open source?
- qazxcvbnmlp 2y agoI remember a very respectable mentor 10 years ago mentioning to avoid mbed when it came out as this kinda thing comes and goes. For a while I thought he was wrong and it would stick around. It did not.
- pjmlp 2y agoOne thing that comes with seniority is being around enough years to be able to get a feeling for this kind of stuff, after getting burned a few times.
