This is a pretty hot take, which is likely why you're getting downvoted, but I can at least attest to this sort of stuff happening all the time. I recently joined a global company and made acquaintances with a Serbian whose family lineage happened to be in preserving history. Our first few non-work conversations were pretty hot debates because we were talking about the same historical events from a completely different viewpoint (mainly around the actions of NATO in that area). Anyway, I've since learned of some non-Western outlets to see the "other" side of things, and it's very interesting to compare and contrast the differences.
