I think automated traffic cameras are a promising place where this might happen again because (1) they are still relatively new, so people are less likely to fall into status quo bias ("we've always had X, so it must be good/necessary/inevitable"); and (2) traffic cameras are uniquely irritating and salient to the average citizen in a way that, say, NIMBY regulations are not.
