I agree it's sad that I'm the only one finding your stuff interesting, but have you noticed these charts almost always have US in the middle. The New Middle Kingdom or what?!! Those high trust barbarians (of New Old Rome!!)..
Would you prefer the drained brains from countries where social competence has been depressed due to high trust coddling, or from countries with highly evolved, dense ecologies of social predators? One of them is a learning experience!
- vinnyvichy 2y agoMaybe you are better equipped to target the dormant francophone(?Grecian?)(?sinophilic?) nature of (the similarly mis-intelligible) yamrzou for three way engagement(s)/three-body problems everyone would like to have
- vinnyvichy 2y agoAlso hilarious is to see my thesis that Norwegians are the most Confucian of Europe (&.not the (northern) italics) apophenicated. https://www.diva-portal.org/smash/get/diva2:230818/FULLTEXT01.pdf https://www.diva-portal.org/smash/get/diva2:230818/FULLTEXT0... "Confucianism in Business-- A Study of Chinese Management in Sweden" (More Hofstede!!) Swedes have perhaps inherited too much of the gallic ambition from Charles XIV Jean
- 082349872349872 2y agoThere doesn't seem to be much signal on Hofstede's 6 axes, but Jacobs' Guardian/Commercial split does seem pretty strong on the CN/SE sides in that study? (as to francophones, my limited experience is that the "grand patron == chef" dirigiste style ought to play better with confucians than the scandinavians?)
- vinnyvichy 2y agoHmmm might need to delve/dive into that split (considering guardian vs commercial in terms of trust vs productivity) To be fair to Hofstede, maybe the problem could be fixed with some rudimentary PCA, but you might just get back the usual trust vs productivity scatterplot (like MBTI vs Big5 for "a society") that you found interesting.. japanese/swedish cultures are reportedly closest, might well be worth looking at M&A events in the 1980s. don't know whether karoshi is just symptomatic of a particular tricky retrovirus hidden in the cultural DNA. Similarly.. you might want to reconsider "confucianism=topdown" in light of the graph at 13m07s https://youtu.be/zrFWHAyI2W0?t=13m7s https://youtu.be/zrFWHAyI2W0?t=13m7s (Ok it might be that neoconfucianism in the PRC ( as well as current-day SRV CPV checkout 必诚's basic tactics vs gallic responses?[0]) might be just be XJP et al trying to retcon the Legalist narrative, see [0]https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/V%C3%B5_Nguy%C3%AAn_Gi%C3%A1p https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/V%C3%B5_Nguy%C3%AAn_Gi%C3%A1p https://www.clemson.edu/cah/academics/history-and-geography/index.html#giap https://www.clemson.edu/cah/academics/history-and-geography/... [As talismans against internet internecs] [ My main issue with JJ's splits are that they are better for impasse & not very good for dynamics -- e.g. in the Bachelors pdf there is a diagram* depicting spiral "Confucian" vs "Swedish" linear concept of time. *(fig5.7 p64 2005 Swede-Chinese cite that's hard for me to dig out) ] [ Has JJ written about the role of Greenwich Village in moving people between the 2 preceptual systems?
