You can have floor heating with heat pumps, too. Just heat up the water to a lower temperature (~40C) for longer. It's still way more efficient than burning gas

I actually thought floor heating was standard for heat pumps (maybe it's a european thing tho)

  Not every house can have floor heating without prohibitively high costs.
