A few times, I've considered if Apple would make a turducken iPhone sleeve becomes an iPad, and then an iPad with a magnetic base, telescoping laptop hinge, and battery becomes a MBP with touch interface. For profit and usability reasons, it ain't ever gonna happen in that garden. In Android or DIY, sure it makes sense to offer a keyboard and possibly a bigger battery and more hardware resources as a dock. The only downside is now there's only 1 device that can be used instead of 2 discrete devices that can be used simultaneously and independently.
